Feb 28

Arrived Feb 28 at anchorage Bucerias in our special spot where we have complementary wireless from the resort. Looks like more maintenance as we like to revarnish (again) some of the interior.

Feb 27
We got restless and around noon sailed out of the lagoon. This is tricky but conditions where ideal so could not resist. All went well thank goodness as we had a few spectators.

The last few days many boats have come a go and several hit the dirt as the channels is unmarked and narrow. This is not a big deal and usual someone with a dinghy or two get them of the sand bank quickly. The morning we left a 120' power boat pulled away from the fuel dock and promptly ran aground. As is was a very large boat no one went to have a look as the chance of helping something that big do not look good. Went over with the dinghy and found a 3 person crew (Owner, wife and a deckhand) wondering what to do. After checking the tides agreed to try to help them getting it off. Firsts sounded the bottom all around and found it was very close to deep water. Then lowered the big zodiac with the deck crane and drove some stakes in the ground to mark exact position. Got my dive gear and explored the props and rudders for damages. Then with there big Zodiac pushed the transom just into a little deep water and with the help of there big engines ( 1000 hp) in full reverse she slowly came back off. Mud flying every where. Than to the fuel dock and I checked the props and rudders once more and found that all seems fine. So our first rescue of a big one.

A real calm sea and little wind so we motored most of it although sailed a few hours during the night.

Maintenance and cleaning day. Cleaning up the bow area as we had some scratches from the anchoring in Ensanada this last fall.
Will keep us busy for a few days, plan to move on on Monday

Feb 19
Underway around 0900 hrs for the last 15 nm or so to the entrance of the lagoon. Flat conditions with light land breeze. Arrived 1200 hrs at the fuel dock. 330 liters and 1500 liters water.

1330 at anchor in the lagoon among 55 other boats. What a zoo.

Feb 18
Motor sailed all day and decided to pull in close to Manzanillo into Carizal Bay. It was very quiet and arrived a little past midnight.

Anchored in 36' 120' chain.

Feb 18

0400 hrs  De fishing village of Calleta De Campos abeam. Joanne did the 1200 to 0300 watch.
1000 hrs Maruatta abeam. Seas light swell no wind to speak off.

Feb 17
We are getting restless and decide to depart after church. The weather is fine and possible a bit of SW wind in the forecast. After church a quick trip to the commercial and get underway at 1300 hrs. Had a piece of rusty chain in the anchor locker and donated that to a fisherman coming by in his panga.
A nice breeze outside the harbor but to much West to sail by effectively so we are motorsailing.

2100 Hrs Lazaro Cardena abeam. 2 large freighter at anchor. A bit of a swell and ones in a while we bury the bow but not bad at all.

Feb 6
Things are quiet as the tourist are staying away in numbers, Still a fair amount of people here but mainly Mexican tourist. The town is getting ready for carnival. The stage at the zokolo is busy every night and music can be heard till midnight. The town is still about the same. New improvements but the general atmosphere the same. The food vendors, Ishmael & Hilda, the dinghy man. The knife sharpener with his distinctive whistle and his sharpening wheel. The feel of the heat radiating from the walls of the building when walking through the streets at night. The church bells calling the worshipers for mass.

We are among 40 or so boats in the anchorage. The numbers are slowly going down as boats move back up North with the warmer weather. We keep busy doing  boat things. Cleaning polishing no shortage on work aboard. Have learned that if nothing is going on we better keep busy, makes us feel better.

Feb 5
Carnival is coming and the town had a holiday yesterday but today we learn that it is actual today the holiday and because the Monday in between took that off to. Whenever there is a reason the Mexican's celebrate.

Feb 4
A working day. Polished some rail and made arrangements to unload our goodies and gifts. Also our broken riser pipe for the exhaust. Ron arrived in his pickup and with a few helping hands had everything transferred in a jiffy. Ron took us to a welder living in a small village just outside Zihuat. Took a few hours and a trip to get some more SS welding rods but got the job finished. Thanks Felix and Ron. Back onboard and within 15 minutes got the main fired up. Is all working fine again.

Feb 3
Awoke and watching the world from the cockpit. A large cruise ship came in, briefly anchored and was wallowing in the swell. The took off as it was rolling to much. We went off in the bus to Ixtapa to see our friends Ron & Rose Cavenaugh at the church. On our way back they gave us a ride and sitting in the back of a pick up truck in real Mexican fashion. Had breakfast in town.

Feb 2
Last day for Dick & Deb. They need to leave later today. Deb and Dick one more last trip to the beach and a para sail. Then back to the boat getting there gear and off to shore. Hailed a taxi and within seconds they where gone racing of through the narrow streets on the way to the airport.
See you again soon, shipmates!
We suffer empty boat syndrome for the next little while.

Feb 1
Awoke in a bustling bay with lots of activity from fishing panga's and sport fishers etc. Just watching this is a treat. Crew ashore shopping and sight seeing. Deb & Joanne went para sailing. A great day we all enjoyed. More midnight cafe.
