July 30 Just a quick update of our where
about's the last month or so. After our haul out at Stone Marina in
Nanaimo, we got launched and spent 1 day at anchor in Nanaimo and then
said good bye to our good friend Tom Smith who helped getting us ready for
the season. Thanks Tom without you we could not have done it.
Then proceeded to Nanaimo boat basin where we got the incline test done
under the supervision of transport Canada inspector George Carras and the
naval architect Tad Roberts. This involved trying to heel the boat at
least 3 degrees. This required a 45 gallon drum to be hung on the end of
the boom and swung out over the side. It takes a lot to heel a stiff boat
like Western Grace. Cal & Louise, Nanaimo friends of ours supplied the
barrels and helped rigging and filling the barrels. All went well and no
surprises so we are all set to get our certificate. Transport Canada was
satisfied and promised a certificate to be issued.
The next day sailed to Vancouver for our next guest and made a 14 day trip
to Pr. Rupert. A long but very nice trip. Much to see and still the nicest
coast we know of. Departed July 17 from Pr Rupert and sailed in 3 days to
Port Hardy through the Hecate Strait. Than explored and fished for a few
days around and pulled in to Port Hardy July 21. Dropped off Jim and have
been at anchor in Hardy for the last week.
